Hosting a Private Match (IW5)

  • Project Moderator

A private match is a great way to play quick private games with friends without the hassle of setting up a dedicated server.

The only current way to play private matches is to use the console and port forward.

    Port Forwarding

In order for players to connect to the hosts game, the host needs to have Port Forwarded port 27016 UDP & TCP as this is the default port used by mw3 for private matches (Note: Only the host is required to do this).

You can find how to do this by Googling 'YourRouterName Port Forwarding'
Note: If port forwarding is too complex, just stick to playing public servers, or maybe join an empty server so you have the same experience as a private game.

(Assumes you are the host of the game)

    1. Go to and tell anyone who wants to join your IPv4 Address

    2. Start Pluto IW5

    3. Navigate the game menu to 'PRIVATE MATCH'

    4. Setup the game as you wish then hit 'START MATCH'

    5. Once the match has loaded tell anyone who wants to join to: open the console by using the tilde key while at the main menu

    6. Get them to enter the following command, replacing 'HostsIPAddress' with the IPv4 you previously looked up:
      /connect HostsIPAddress

    Failed to join

If you followed the above correctly and your friends are unable to join it's likely you did not port forward correctly, so double check you have opened the port correctly.
