    Fantastic suggestion. I do it.

@Astro A screenshot system would be easier to bypass than the anticheat tbh, But not a bad suggestion after all.

Screenshot is probably your best option against ring0 hacks.

Would be cool to have a function to get a Image every X seconds over the next Y seconds. Like a screenshot every 10 seconds for the next 30 seconds.

  • What if hacks are External ESP shit

  • Project Moderator

You can grab a screenshot with all overlapping windows, external ESPs are basically just a overlapping windows where nearly everything is transparent. Probably once the anticheat is broken, they will hook the screenshot function anyway and turn off drawing for a few frames...

  • @Xerxes This is a bad idea if I, for instance, happen to have a Skype instance overlapping the game window for a couple of seconds or so. The way Black Ops II's TAC works is by using a different thread specifically for taking a screenshot; this way, when this task is being run, it won't really impact the game's performance and will, therefore, appear seamless. This is something V2 failed to do, as I have noticed myself not long ago from a research of my own.
On top of that, TAC appears to use the DirectX 11 SDK to take the screenshot when the game is in fullscreen mode. So yeah, just throwing out some ideas.

  • @Musta As for external hacks, I believe one of the best ways is to just have a database of cheat signatures and scan
all the running processes for those signatures. Detecting suspicious activity might also be a good idea, as long as the anti-cheat isn't more based on screenshots, since that's not the most reliable way of detecting cheats in my opinion.

  • Project Moderator

@greyy My Idea isn't bad, since its quite easy to check if the game is in the foreground. A simple if statement could then decide if the game should take a screenshot with all overlapping windows or not.

Your idea with a database of signatures can be bypassed by 0 lines of code, since its really simple to change signatures. More effective would be checking handles and the loaded libraries. But I do have faith in @Mr-Android to be able to implement a functional and effective anti cheat system.

  • It's a bad idea in my opinion because I might accidentally have a PornHub window overlapping with the game and I don't want anyone to find out I fap exactly at 3 AM every night. It's not as bad as taking a screenshot of the whole screen, but it's still bad and can be at times a breach of privacy and you cannot deny that, no matter what argument you give.
As for the cheat signatures, this is how every anti-cheat handles it. This method is enough to detect all MPGH newbie-made cheats compiled in Visual Basic that already exist on the internet, and most if not all old 4D1/Steam cheats as well that the authors won't bother to recompile. Of course, you can change parts of your cheat to get around the signature checks, but that's just how it is my friend. Anti-viruses and any anti-cheat will have a malware/cheat database, period. If you want to get around it, use binary code obfuscation a.k.a. code mutation (VMProtect does the job really well), but then again... and anti-cheat will NEVER stop any decently skilled hacker that actually knows his way around reverse engineering. Just like me.

Jokes aside though, I have experience with this. I hate bragging, and I could go on and on a bunch but I'll stick just to this: I have bypassed the aCI3 that V2 currently use (no one else has done this at the moment, due to lack of interest but still) and I gave my code away to the V2 developers as a sign of good faith and respect, so they can actually do something about it and make my code outdated. Still, to this day there was no update on their part; however, I fear the only way to "force" them to do something about it is to actually release the anti-anti-cheat to the public and spread it out as much as possible, to cause some pressure.

Once Pluto comes out, I can have a look as well and give feedback in case needed. Let's see what they come up with.

  • Apologies for the double post and for going super nerdy in this specific post, but I just feel like I should show the correct way of doing screenshots. Treyarch does it the right way without violating anyone's privacy, and in case you didn't believe my previous post, I've got proof: https://gyazo.com/02420c7a1465d08039448a093d74e18e

Also, if requesting a screenshot from a user becomes a public feature like V2, then it really is an even worse idea to screenshot whatever's overlapping the game window.

  • Project Moderator

Of course a breach of privacy is something that should never ever happen. But wasn't the idea behind a external ESP to be a mostly transparent window which is over the game but not in the foreground so it doesn't block the input to the game?

IIRC Pluto will only allow server owners to grab screenshots of players who are currently connected to the server if they implement it at all.

  • The thing is: if you actually have to mostly rely on screenshots in order to detect cheating, then your anti-cheat is not really any advanced... if it can even be considered an anti-cheat at all, for that matter. An anti-cheat is supposed to be smart and detect suspicious activity (i.e. OpenProcess/WriteProcessMemory on the game process), and should only require human verification (through screenshots) in a case of doubt.
The correct way of detecting cheats, whether we're talking about external hacks or not, is to have an automated solution that does the job. People will always find ways to circumvent certain detections (like external ESP's), and the devs will have to catch up and find new ways of detecting them; screenshots should be used as a last resort. If it isn't, then it means your anti-cheat module isn't anything good and that you're insecure about it.

  • I'm just gonna say this. Screenshot the game and only the game. respect privacy. Screenshoting is just 1 layer of a good anti-cheat. That's all I will say.

I also suggest the way of everyone having that resource like v2-info bot except with out the ;rs(random screenshot). Everyone should play as a role defending against cheaters.

    This is a good example.
We host a lot of COD4 servers and almost every day we get a screenshot of someone who has their Discord/Facebook/Steam messaging opened and if the screenshot is taken at that moment we can see their private information.
If it will work like PBSS then it's a bad idea because PBSS takes a screenshot of your whole screen not only of the game, and especially if it will work like V2 where everyone can take a screenshot of anyone on the client.
I also heard people with bad internet connections could lag out when someone takes a screenshot of them.

  • Thank you @Super213 and @Andrew for understanding my point here. :)

  • @greyy No problem

hah..external esp/aim/uav shitz cheat is easy detectable ;)

  • hey all!
I don't know but there is already a good ac which does screens and also detects x22 and other known payable cheats...
maybe the head of pluto mw3 could talk to the ac write of moss...
I can link you his site: https://nohope.eu/

    greetings
