Several Vanilla Maps are Unplayable for me Due to the File Being Different from the Server's

On several maps now, when attempting to join, I am kicked back to the main menu with the error message mp_{map name}.ff is different than server.
I am using steam installation of the game, could this be the problem? I tried verifying the files but that had no effect.
Has anyone else had this issue?
