When I connect my headphones there is no sound but they do work in the rest of the computer

Check the audio output device in the game's options and set it to your headphone/speakers.

I had this issue. Once you've made sure your ear/head phones are working in other games go back into Blops 2 and go to options, settings, sound, sound device and make sure it's the same as your head phones.

LuvSully Get out of the current match you're in and try again. You need to be in the main menu in order to be able to change it.

For anyone looking for this issue in the future, try going to Windows settings -> Microphone Privacy Settings -> "Allow Apps to Access Your Microphone" set to Off

For the people who has "Sound Device" option unclickable and black, game detect headphones when booting. If you connected your device after booting up game it won't detect so close and reopen game
