A Plutonium Suggestion (Looking for Feedback)
-
Is/could it be possible to have a "Master Server" that would handle XP gain in "ranked" servers...
So I have been thinking about this for a while, as you may know, it is rumored that GameServers.com is soon shutting down their ranked bo1 servers. This would kill the fun in the game for many players like myself.
And now to my point: Some way they (Treyarch/Activision) keep track of players' XP. With the current version of Plutonium, you can choose to unlock all or get camos/whatever. Is there a way to make two separate versions of the client (or similar) to allow players to choose servers that require you to grind for everything with no possibility of "unlock all"? I would love to see this be an option for people so they can grind out 100% legit and show off to the others who play on those "ranked" servers.
Having this implemented for Bo2 as well, would be the dream. I know you can choose not to unlock all, but just having that makes all the grinding and achievements worthless if all you have to do is press a button.
Personally, this would also give me more incentive to play the Pluto version of Bo1 + Bo2.
I would love to hear feedback and what the plutonium community has to say about it.If I am wrong about anything please correct me, and I would love to hear as much detail as possible if you decide one way or another, Thanks.

You can already grind stuff yourself. Locking the feature per server is kinda dumb and would split the very tiny community even more. I'm no dev but I'm 99.9% sure this will never be done for these two reasons

Yeah, it really is a shame. I would love to see that be an option for server hosts, If people don't like the grind-set they could play on servers that don't have that system. Either way giving hosts other options is good I would think.

I like the idea you are suggesting in part but also agree with not splitting the player base. That said, if there was interest, I think both are possible to do @KillerRose83 re; having separate servers. I don't agree with a separate client, but in the same browser window that lists the servers, one could be named for example: unlocked weapons & perks (or something similar)
Sure I like to grind for things, maybe some would like to start over, but personally I wouldnt want to go through all the prestiges again and just play the game. I just finished going through 15 prestiges (again) in official because of the rank reset bug. What would be nice is if somehow your suggestion was ever accepted and implemented, perhaps there could be a way to see the progress / rank / level in official steam account / game. That way those people could play in either server (locked or unlocked), without losing their progress already earned. I believe the Northstar client for Titanfall 2 has a way to see rank / level on official and transfer that over.

I agree Vexbane, I didn't so much mean the client, more so the server hosts could decide the type of server "ranked" or "unranked". "Ranked" would keep track of level / guns / xp / etc. Having a separate tab on the server browser perhaps for each type. And if the "ranked" servers could "read" your steam level / guns / xp / etc. that would be even better. Although I do not understand the challenges that would provide, I still think that this would be a good step for plutonium. This would also give meaning to your level ingame again when playing on "ranked" servers.

@KillerRose83 this would make people who grind and don't agree with you forced to not play with 70% of the population and also people who have friends could no longer play together/xp together, that's just not necessary. Not everyone wants to grind a 10yo game, live with your time

I definitely get the appeal, and think it could attract new, more casual players if done right, but there're a couple things that makes it problematic.
First off, it'd be very difficult to ensure no one spoofs their/someone else's stats, since we can't trust any single party in a given game. Secondly, I think there'd be little incentive for server owners to run servers like this, since we'd have to restrict most of the customizability that allows them to run unique servers.
With that in mind, we'd most likely have to run them ourselves, which we don't have the funds nor time for at this point, so I guess that's the bottom line on this matter unfortunately.

With this in mind, what if you had a community who were willing to do multiple servers like this, and already had the resources? Would Plutonium be willing to attempt this task?
And Resxt, you wouldn't have to choose one or the other for life, you could join either a "ranked" or "unranked" server depending on the circumstance at the time, whether you feel like grinding or not. And 5 minutes later you could join unranked if you felt like it. I personally would like to grind to compete with my friends, and if you had a friend who didn't like that you could hop on unranked for a while... I think this would be a win-win situation. As long as the xp is the same between all the ranked servers, you could play on any of the ranked servers and have the weapons you grinded for.

@KillerRose83
The stats for the game would have to communicate with plutonium's master server(s) and they keep a database for every single server that is hosted, which data would grow with time, not sure by what rate.. idk, perhaps it would be insignificant. If they were to do that, Eldor might be saying in order to pull it off successfully and securely (the xp / database) plutonium would be required to be the only ones to host the ranked servers. The setup and maintaining that database sounds like more work than they want to tackle right now. having 'official' ranked servers hosted by plutonium then brings with it other problems, like when there are hackers, they would be complaining to them about it.
There was some hype around sm2 where I believe they were going to have a full ranking system. That would have been nice.

Yeah, maybe that would be too much to handle. I was hyped for SM2 but Activision had other plans. If they were planning on doing that for SM2 why couldn't they do it for bo1/2, but maybe Activision would come knocking again I don't know. But I see huge potential here.
