Jet Gun fix

Hello, I'm newbie in this forum and this community. I was reading about people making their own mods and I have some questions:
- First of all, is there any mod to fix the Jet gun? (remove explosion after overheating, activate cooldown without having the weapon on the hand, change the game in order to save the jet gun in weapon slot, etc)
-How can I make my own mod? Where do I get source files and how can I compile/decompile them?
