You do need it for the dlcs and stuff if you don't have dlcs owned in steam. Also please tell me you're using your steam copy and not some bad bo2 repack.

i got all the dlc for multiplayer working fine but not zombies? they on something else orr? is that whats the piry is for zombies dlc only

Well yes that means you're missing the dlcs. Run piry and leave it, it might take some time but it skips over what you already have downloaded and just downloads what you dont have.
