Issues with Plutonium
-
I used to run servers on here sometime last year and have been meaning to get back to it since I'll be graduating soon. That said, I went to my plutonium files and tried to update a few weeks ago. This is when my issue was first realized. Long story short, I run plutonium.exe and nothing shows up on my desktop at all. It crashes before it has a chance to live. I checked my task manager and plutonium.updater.app runs for about a second before it shits itself. Here is the .dmp: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JF7uJBgPcWDrzKEB-hVaX3iTLiKPVl_D/view?usp=sharing
I've done some attempts at fixing this, ran as admin, googled around for the error codes. updated drivers and ran chkdsk. Deleted everything and started from scratch. Honestly running out of ideas here so asking for some other nerds to help. Yes, this is my personal PC that im the admin of, yes the program is an exception for my windows defender. Yes, I turned off windows defender and tried launching as well. I was able to run my BO2 from an executable somewhere is the plutonium folder but it just yelled at me to update before i tried to enter a lobby (expected). The game ran fine otherwise. Seems like a plutonium problem or issue with my pc deep somewhere. idk.

Did you delete %localappdata%\Plutonium ?
The launcher lives in that location so deleting that and then downloading the up to date launcher again and running that should fix the problem.

Mr. Android I did delete that as well, and it still doesn't update. After deleting everything on my pc related to Plutonium, the only thing I have is my game installation, server folders, and one updated plutonium.exe. nothing in localappdata. Once trying to launch plutonium i get an appcrash and dmp from windows with the same content as shown above. It never even gets to creating a new local appdata it dies before getting there.

Mr. Android I ended up solving it. TLDR at the end of this post. I'm posting this just in case someone else on here may have the same problem because this one was plaquing me for weeks. I googled around and did multiple checks and antivirus scans that took all day. Deleted a shit load of cookies but didn't effect my pc's hatred toward running plutonium. After going and trying every recommended way to fix the error and nothing worked I started googling around on old Intel forums. There was discussions of the new windows update causing it so I rolled back the update and it still wasn't working. After exhausting the registry editor, powershell commands, hours of scans, and considerations for resetting my pc, I ran across something interesting. After continuously running plutonium and crashing it I tracked down the Application Error in window's event viewer.

Either way, I tried to find a place to reinstall directx9 and realized there is no official way to do it. In fact the official downloads page for microsoft.com is just a 404 page. so I started looking into other ways to find a directx installation that I could moderately trust. Finally, I ran across this obscure ass post here:
https://old.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/l70z0u/rivatuner_statistics_server_dxwebsetup_no_longer/This made me consider maybe Riva is the problem or MSI afterburner. Then I found this post:
TL;DR i uninstalled RivaTuner, and now my applications all install and open correctly.

Using Riva Tuner can be a bit of a gamble depending on your system.
Just FYI usually its enough to disable it and you might get away with blacklisting it in RT itself.:::

Xerxes I'm cool with just deleting it though. The reddit post def didn't say to delete it, but I'd rather save the headaches in the future. Thanks for the promising screenshot though
