Some servers out there may have a mod that lets you use the lantern tp without a denizen, but doing it too often will immediately crash the game. Spam clicking spectate has the same effect in an unmodded lobby, but only when the players are far enough apart from eachother.

There may be more ways to replicate it as its also happened when just fighting zombies randomly. The game has a loading/unloading issue somewhere

Then its the same crash as when you are traveling by bus. The map is split up into multiple parts, you travel from one part to another (by any means including tp) and your PC can't keep up with loading the files? Guess what, you are crashing.

That can't be right, i have an i5-8400, 1660 Super and running on an SSD. That should be more than enough for this game.

It does not necessary have to be your HW, this issue is hard to debug and caused by the game having to run on PS3 and XBox 360, even Treyarch never managed to fix it even though they had the source code. I have had this crash twice in the last 3 years with more than enough RAM free that Windows keeps the files in memory.
