How Do I Join Friends Through Custom Games?

I have heard and read through the help section on BO2 and it says that I have to "Double-Click on a friend's name" But when I do that it says "joining game session" and then never actually joins the person. I have tried loading into a game and starting it and then have my friends join but they just get stuck on "joining game session".
(I have my in-game party privacy on open BTW if that helps.)
Any ideas of what might be wrong?

Luka Doncic this means the one who host either did something wrong like uPnP still disabled or misconfiguration of the port forward. If this is fine then this probably means the host has something that is still blocking the connection like a firewall or an antivirus firewall
