Switch Controller?

I have been trying to play BO2 with my controller, but it isn't detected off the bat and I have no idea of how to properly add it to Steam so the mapper can work. Any ideas?

I mean i tryed this a bit ago. you can launch up steam and go into big piture mode then you go to setting in that and enable your controler
