Do i need steam to use ps4 controllers?

Plutonium t6 wont read my controller im using ds4windows and in ds4windows it reads my controller. I saw a youtube video and it said you need steam. Is that true?

Resxt it doesn't work in game tho but ds4windows reads my controller.

It says im pressing r2 but it doesnt show in game.
It used to work tho at some point now it just doesn't. I tried uninstalling but when I do for some reason when i reinstall the usual menu for setting up doesnt work
maybe i messed something up w/ commands so tell me how to fix it plsThank you for reading my essay.

_Doge_ make sure ds4windows is set to emulate a xbox controller.

I think it already was even if it wasnt on xbox this is my settings rn
headphones connected to the controller still work.
