Cannot play on servers with a friend

I want to join a party with a friend and play on a server that is already populated with other players. When I join a server, only I get put in the game (not my friend). When I try to join their game (When they have joined a server and I am in the page with server browser etc) it gives me an error and brings me back to the main menu. Does anyone know if there is a work around to this? Also, by the looks of previous posts, it appears you can only play with friends in private matches. Is this true?

yes, you can't bring your party into dedicated servers with you.

Odenholm7 Yes, this will work in the future, but there is no ETA for it yet.
