Getting connecting to online service and then error after leaving and rejoining

so basically I was playing zombies with a friend, decided to switch to mp, and once mp launched, I pressed online, got connecting to online service and then authentication error (I have steam version btw). apparently I was online cause my friend could send me invites but once I accepted them I got "downloading game settings" and then an error. Any solutions?
