Game tabs out and freezes

After a certain amount of time my game just tabs out and freezes with no reason. I tried changing the resolution to 1080x720 and playing windowed and still happens.
The weird thing is that when it tabs out it is still running; I can hear the game and interact to a certain degree. Also, when I'm hosting a game with my friends what happens to them is what would happen if the host were constantly tabbing in and out, but the game doesn't crash until I close the application.
Anyone knows what to do?
