Can't play BO2 Zombies

I cannot play zombies with my friend. Whenever I press join on his session, or he tries to join me, we get the same "Unable to join game session" error. UPnP is enabled, I have checked my firewall and I have forwarded all the necessary ports. I am at a loss with what to do next - any suggestions would be appreciated.

what if you host? it won't matter if you forward all ports if your friend who is the host doesn't it won't work.
