Playing with someone over the same wifi

So me and my friend are trying to play over the same Wi-Fi, but we can't join each other, we've tried inviting each other, we've tried connecting through ip, I tried a vpn, that didn't work either. Everytime we both use plutonium at the same time, neither of us can see any servers in the server browser, any help??
