Call of Duty security question
-
Hello! first of all i would like to thank you for your work, i love old cod and i am happy that after a good 12 years i can still play my favorite game, thank you!!!
ever since i found out that there are security flaws, i have always been a bit scared to play it, from what i understand RCE flaws only work in steam/p2p version, i would like to understand, regarding call of duty, what is the difference between p2p and dedicated servers? did these flaws previously work on dedicated servers as well?
i always wanted to download CoD4x, just nowhere they say it is safe to play, even mw3 steam has server list, are those servers vulnerable?
Is there a risk that even the new cod, over time, will become vulnerable like the old ones?thank you for your hard work!

Most of those Exploits use Steams API I believe and of course Plutonium patches that stuff out so no I don't believe its possible
Difference between the servers should be pretty Obvious one is hosted by a player and everyone connects to the player meaning your IP is super visible
vs connecting to a outside server that doesn't show your IP address personally plus servers can constantly run and shouldn't have to ever deal with that dogshit Host Migration ever again

Thank you very much for the answer, so theoretically, rce exploits don't work on third party clients since they work outside steam, right?

@Raccoonex84 I won't talk about other clients, just know that some of them do have exploits.
As for Plutonium yes all known exploits are patched by our dev team.
