How do 10 random guys with a job and family fight a multi billion dollar company with probably thousands of lawyer?
This is a passion project made on free time. They don't have the money or the resources to do that and depending on country and so on this can cost you an insane amount of money if you lose, which is very likely.

Also on the legal side of things Activision is right in the sense that what they do is legal.
They send threats to small groups because they know no one can/will try to contest it

was the even english, lol? also, they got served a cease and desist by a multi million if not BILLION dollar company. even if they were in the right, they would be buried under all the lawyer fees throughout the time the lawsuit takes (most likely years). In that time they would still most likely have to cease their work.
