Private match multiplayer?

I can't seem to invite my friends to play a custom match is this an ongoing problem? or is it because the official bo1 servers are out of commisson
if its still possible how do i make a private match to invite friends in and invite them without any issues
I do note is that cod zombies multiplayer works but not PVP multiplayer on a private match
