cod aw bug??

if i try to play cod aw through steam, the game crashes while loading a zombies map with the error "read error of file imagefile005" or something like that. HOWEVER if i start the game through the alterware s1x client (using a legit steam copy) i don't encounter this bug. this is annoying because the alterware client doesn't count towards steam achievements. i've verified the game files, re-installed the game, and deleted imagefile005 then verified the game files. if anyone has a fix for this let me know.
sorry if this isn't the best place to post this, i thought yall would be the most helpful
edit: forgot to mention that a similar bug happens to me with ghosts, except that using the iw6x client does not resolve the problem, it just crashes a different way
