my microphone isn't a selectable audio choice, help?

so my mic isn't there to use in the "sound device" settings and it doesn't let me hear anything.
I'm assuming because my mic i plugged into an Xbox controller that's why it simply cannot find it? -
In-game voice chat does not work.

it's not voice chat, it's the full audio, i cannot select my microphone that i use in the "sound device" section.
