Controller Usage

I setup my xbox one controller to play mw3, however using the controller has major problems but the biggest issue for me is that to pickup a weapon off the ground its not hold x to pickup its tap x to pickup and obviously that interferes with my reloads so ill pick up a gun instead of reload. I tried to config the controls but when i do the game doesn't recognize my controller input.
