Friends list not working

Upon launch, server list loads however the friends list does not and remains empty. I show up on my friend's client as offline however.
My network profile is set to private and the launcher is allowed through the windows firewall, but the client/launcher displays UPnP as disabled. I can join game servers without any issues. -

Not just he following you or you following him?

i have the same difficulty my friend saw me online but i don't see him so this might be related and i don't see anyone when i go through recent played with or friends ( i follow him and he follows me )
