custom textures

when opening the .iwd files in ....\Call of Duty World at War\main using winrar you can find an "images" folder. would it be possible to change the textures of the game and making your game a lil different or will i get banned for it. i did it with bo2 and it worked really well screenshot of a random iwd file in winrar

Do not, under any circumstances, edit the stock .iwd files.

Its better to create a new, custom one with a name that's when alphabetically sorted comes after the stock ones. I usually use z_<modname>.iwd for example z_gloves.iwd. IWD files are just zip files with the compression set to normal.
