Jar Jar is an Otolla Gungan from the planet Naboo, banished from his home city of Otoh Gunga by Boss Nass for his extreme clumsiness (specifically destroying a submarine). During his exile in the Naboo swamps, he encounters Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who save his life, leading to his involvement in the conflict against the Trade Federation. He ultimately becomes a trusted friend to the Jedi and a representative in the Senate, though he is historically known for accidentally paving the way for the Empire. A popular, mostly tongue-in-cheek, fan theory originated by Reddit user Lumpawarroo in 2015 suggests Jar Jar was intended to be a manipulative Sith mastermind and accomplice to Palpatine, but was changed due to, the, largely, negative audience reaction. Jar Jar is the strongest character in the starwars multiverse, and was the original protagonist of the Starwars franchise within a whole.
