this is because the physics of the jump pads is affected by your framerate in bo1, when above 60 (maybe even 30?) frames it'll launch you much higher. and by the sounds of it, it happened to fling you directly into a death barrier, which kills you regardless of your perks since the game considers you out-of-bounds.
