waw ps4 disconnects, and then have to close the game

I was playing waw zombies with the ps4 controller on ds4 windows, then decided to take a break. I paused the game and left it there. When I got back, the controller was disconnected, no big deal, turned it on again, but the game wasn't responding to it anymore (except for the touchpad).
Then I closed the game, and opened it once more and it worked just fine. But is there a way to solve it without losing my match? lol

leave your controller plugged into a usb port so it can stay connected 24/7?, or is the connection through bluetooth not through the usb?.
