Server Hosting Problems

My question then is this: is there a way to host my own servers without needing port forwarding skills?
If you don't port forward your server won't be visible on the serverlist and people outside your LAN won't be able to connect to it. If you just wanna play on it with people on your LAN you can directly connect via the console.
connect serverip:port
serverip is gonna be the lan ip of the pc that runs the server and the port is gonna be the one the server uses (4976 or 4977). If you run game and server on the same pc you need to be aware that the ports will conflict so if you start the game first it will occupy port 4876, if you then start the server 4976 will already be occupied and the server will automatically use 4977.

Dss0 that's helpful, actually. Gonna give that a go.
Though.... when I tried to run my server in the past it never gave me a heartbeat, and always said something about a %s.cfg being missing. What's up with that?
-
absol77 I'd advise you to check your dedicated.cfg files. There's a youtube Vid which helps setup a zombie server but the process should be the same for mp.
Here's the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M7hz-ZnTiQ&t=1178s -
absol77 you installed some files wrong or simply didn't install them. Read the doc carefully

Battleslay3r I followed this tutorial (on mute, mind you, because I usually despise video tutorials) up to the port forwarding section. That's where I got stuck.
You know if I could just pay someone to fix everything up in the files except for, like, the server key and stuff? Because I am technologically illiterate but also desperately need a bot server of my own, lol.
-
that tutorial is not very good.. the guy creates a huge mess in the server folder and does a lot of unnecessary stuff. The t6r folder is also not what you're supposed to use for configs (or anything else).
absol77 Chances are you're missing stuff with the video on mute.. if you don't like video tutorials follow the official one on our site. https://plutonium.pw/docs/server/t6/setting-up-a-server/
the server will send heartbeats and load a map without the port being forwarded so you should focus on getting that to work first. If you're still stuck on it not being able to find dedicated.cfg post a screenshot of your server folder. -
That tutorial also lost me, tbh. I tried following it and got confused because it isn't in-depth enough.
Also is Windows 10 absolutely required? Because if so that's just lazy work on the developer's part. The newest OS should be able to run servers, full stop.
-
absol77 it should also work on win8.1 but nothing older than that. It's hardly "lazy", having to support ancient operating systems will hold you back when implementing new features that involve using system functions that are not available in older os's. Microsoft isn't supporting anything before win10 anymore either.
-
absol77 no. Any normal OS will work. Win 8.1 up to 11. Ofc updated and with redist installed if it's too old

absol77 tbh I'm still trying to configure mine as well. Well I'd advise you to get in touch witht their staff. If I have any luck I'll let you know but it's pretty annoying that others can host their servers online while I can't considering the ping being always in the 200s which is pretty high. Such a good game but support is tough.
