steam_api.dll was not found [cracked bo2]

Multiplayer is all fine, but once I try to run singleplayer post-plutonium installed, it gives me an error saying "steam_api.dll was not found" (singleplayer worked just fine before installing plutonium). Is there any solution(s) regarding this issue or am I forced to actually buy the game?
