Is there a way I could play with a ps3 controller? (for the nostalgic times) etc.

Volvo You need to use a software to play with Playstation controllers outside of Steam. There are several that works fine, ScpToolkit is the one I personally used for years until I got my Dualsense. If you get it just make sure to get the latest beta version (the first on in releases)
