Is there a way to speak with friends on the forum?
If not, is there a chance that it could be implemented -
Blackzero935 nodebb has no dm feature no. And it won't be implemented either, the forum software will be replaced with something better at some point.

this is super late but i'd recommend xenforo... the amount of addons...

zaid xen you have to pay for and along with the addons you have to pay for them to when they know what they want they will just make there own forum software for the longest time I used to use mybb and what not there is really no need to shove 100+ usd on software just to run a forum
