My friend is also having this issue.
He has tried re-installing the game, he doesn't have any other AV other than Windows Defender, and his WD says that win32/defenseevasion.wuml is a threat and points to a bootstrapper from plutonium in AppData.
Hopefully, there is a fix.
He has redownloaded it once more and we decided to have both his game folder and appdata folder whitelisted on windows defender and that seemed to have solved the issue for him.
