For anyone looking for this issue in the future, try going to Windows settings -> Microphone Privacy Settings -> "Allow Apps to Access Your Microphone" set to Off

Go to windows settings -> microphone privacy settings -> "Allow Apps to Access Your Microphone" set to off
Tried switching sound output device, tried setting headphones as default in windows, tried downloading directx, restarting pc, tried restoring default settings, etc. none of it worked.
But disabling app access to the mic worked.
I like vanilla servers, but it's hard to find them amongst the sea of modded servers. A blacklist option for the server browser would be nice, to block the servers I don't want to play on from appearing in the browser
