Go see what version your game is on you will find it in the game files if it is lower than 1.7
Go search to call of duty repo patches from 1.0 to 1.7 and see how to install
If not just reinstall the game and run the game and if not working install patches once again

If it happens also when you alt tab
Then you need to after you launch the game alt tab then click on the game then click on the black screen that shows until the game appears do this until it works
If this doesn't work idk man you might to fix your game files

1.Radmin VPN will work 100% but if it doesn't work try hamachi (for some reason hamachi didn't work for me)
The steps:just make a room in radmin VPN and make your friend join the room
You as host go into a private game and choose zombies or any mode you want (and yes it works with mods but you need both to install the mod)
Then type xpartygo to start the game, you will wait for your friend to join
The friend has to copy YOUR ip address from radmin not the one that shows up top
Then open the plutoniom console and type : connect (the ip address you copied from radmin)
Then enter if it doesn't work try the ipv4 the one what shows on top if it doesn't work.
2. Trying to play WAW online was a big challenge and took me some days to set up, but I managed to do something:

• First open Cooperative > Private Match > Game Setup > Nazi Zombies and select the map

• If you want all players to join in round 1, use sp_minplayers 2 <-- Number of players.

• And use xpartygo to force the game to start, it will stay in the loading screen.

Now comes the difficult part, as it depends in connection, IP and other stuff I don't have that much knowledge in

• Press F10 to open the Plutonium overlay and once the host is ready and it appears in private match in the "Friends List" section, it means everything is set up.

• In order to JOIN, you will need the host to open the Plutonium Overlay pressing F10 and then press on "Network", the last number that appears will be next to "Others can connect to you by executing the following command in the console: connect [long IP]

• What I did in this part was trial and error, executing the command "connect [that long number]. Keep in mind that at the end it might follow with ":28960" which you might also need to copied at the end, everything must be copied exactly as it appears. Just try everything

If that does not work, try any of the IPs that appear in the network section of the host, and THEN next to it type :28960, once the correct one is in, then you should join the host.

I don't know why your parents told you it was unsafe tho, you can just set up all of that stuff yourself. But be sure that UPnP is enabled just in case. Credits from Conzt_Waltz
He tried to help me it didn't work for me but this might help for any one who really wants to play.

I really did everything to try to play with my friends and it worked in the end if any of these didn't work, just enable pnp because I tried everything.
The reason I couldn't enable pnp or make port forwarding is because of my parents they had the access to the wifi and I couldn't they always told me it's unsafe for some reason and I would get hacked but if you can do it just do it

Conzt_Waltz it didnt work but i found another way and its so easy
just dowload radmin vpn (hamachi didnt work for sum reason)
and copy the ip address and open the console and type connect "ip address"of the radmin vpn address and it worked with and without mods and in every mode worked and whats even better it worked for bo2 and a lot of games but thank you for responding to me, everyone thought my qusetion was dumb

so first no i dont have pnp or port forwording enabled due to my parents saying because they say its unsafe, so please keep up with me and try to help if u can
when i make a private game and make xpartygo and my friends try to join me it doesnt do anything, i tried the orginal map and a modded map
and i tried hamachi lan
nothing works
the only thing that worked is me and my friends enter a server and it works
so if you can help me pls help
if you can make servers pls make us one if you can
i just wanna play w my friends

Dss0 my friends did install the custom map and still couldnt join my private game, any fix for this?
