Forum Suggestion: Public User Reports
-
As a server owner I do really want to do my due-diligence when taking action against unfair players. Part of that is doing a little bit of research. I'll have a report of a player cheating and I'll look at their stats, patterns, try to spectate them if I can, look at their account on their forums see if its new or if their a long time player (it's always been a new account lol).
With that though I think it would be cool if at least server owners could share public notes on players. When I ban someone from our server network, I'd love to post a note on their account saying what I saw and what I did, so that the next person lookin into this guy might see if other server owners are saying similar things about that player.
I doubt we could get that feature on here, but I do think it would be cool, super useful.

The community could do their own due-diligence by making a public API to check if a player has been banned and it auto kick them.

What counts as an "unfair player"? And how can you distinguish fair players from unfair ones? The cheating situation in Pluto is quite low. Of course, no game is completely free of cheaters, but if someone wants to cheat, they usually need a paid subscription to use undetected cheats.
So my question is: if the average KD of players is between 1.0 and 1.4, how can you distinguish a cheater from a player with a 3 or 4 KD?
The game is old, wallbang spots are well known, as well as pre-aiming positions. Prefiring common spots is also normal.
Unless a player is using wallhacks or a blatant aimbot, the chances of banning fair players are high.

One of my ideas was to create a hierachy of servers for example
1st server: low ranked server ban anyone who gets a kd 3.0 or higher making them have to play number 2 server
2nd server: mid ranked server ban anyone who gets a kd 6.0 or higher etcNoobs can have more friendly games, whilst keeping people within their skill set. the above is just an example of a ranked environment.

Dec I don't wanna call it bringing SBMM to Plutonium, but I do like the idea of players being grouped somewhat by skill level.

So your plan is some sort of SBMM on Pluto? The player base of BO2 is big compared to other older CoDs, but it’s not that big compared to newer CoDs or other online FPS games. So your idea is to avoid tryhards, which means less-skilled players would play against bots and other less-skilled players. If they’re that bad, why don’t they just play against bots?
If you’re not good, instead of alienating a portion of the gaming community, you should work on improving yourself. That’s how things work in the real world. -
You just explained what ranked does, play better and learn to get up in ranks and play against better people
-
The beauty of plutonium servers is the variety of servers, I think someone adding some sbmm servers would give people the extra choice rather than to play the top servers where its just wall bang after wall bang

Get good or play with bots, that’s how games work. There’s a reason why SBMM doesn’t work well and is disliked in many games where it’s implemented. If you have a K/D between 0.4 and 1.0, playing with bots is basically the same as playing against people at your skill level. Either way, it doesn’t matter much, since most servers are run by admins who don’t have much skill and ban people for no real reason. -

I do wonder how you could distinguish a cheater from someone like her. What kind of research would you have to do to know if she’s cheating or not?

- Like I said that's the beauty of plutonium, the variety of servers you're not forced to play any said server. If you don't like a server simply put, don't play it.
- If it didn't matter to you, you wouldn't of commented in the first place.
- One of the good reasons for ranked based match making is filtering out the low skilled players therefore making it easier to moderate the higher ranks for cheaters.
Let me explain it better, Anyone can play the higher servers even if their kd is below 3.0, you only get banned in the 3.0 kd when you reach over it meaning if you wanted to you could just go straight to playing the higher skilled server, Having a server where low tier players can only play to play casually is a great idea.
Some people touch grass, work and have friends so something like this would be great imo.

Nobody complained about Halo 2 having it.

Yes, especially for Black Ops 7, it’s a great game and very successful.

It seems that you haven’t considered the fact that the Pluto population is quite low. Look at how many servers there are in the US and Canada, and tell me why only about a third of them are full all the time.
It doesn’t really matter, since I’ve been banned before and will probably be banned again. Some random admin might get killed by me and assume I’m cheating.
"making it easier to moderate the higher ranks for cheaters"
I shared a video, and you still haven’t explained how you would distinguish a cheater from someone like Viscose. She’s just one example, there are many players who can play at that level.
And finally, you haven’t taken into consideration things like ping, player population based on server distribution, and geographic location. If people wanted SBMM, they would rather play the newer Call of Duty games, not a 14-year-old one.

In most games, it’s mainly used for player retention. I’m not sure how Halo 2 implemented it, but at least looking at the Steam charts for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, having around 2,561 players isn’t a great sign that SBMM is working -
Nice idea! because someone seeing 1 hack and decides to stop playing is a possibility.
maybe also a demo sharing ( the theater mode file ) so other server owners can look for themselves to confirm it if they need to?
seeing others talk about sbmm and how to distinguish legit players from hackers, maybe start with the blatant hacks first? for example:- Shooting people across the whole map and auto killing everyone that is alive ( the regular hack, somehow they still exist
) - Absolute 0 recoil while firing ( easily spottable if you look at the match demo )
- Shooting people across the whole map and auto killing everyone that is alive ( the regular hack, somehow they still exist

There are two types of cheats: public and private. Public cheats are the ones you can find on YouTube or websites like UnknownCheats. Private cheats are a different story. They usually work through subscriptions and are sold through websites or Discord servers. They’re much harder for anti-cheat systems to detect, and they receive constant updates. Just look at the current cheating situation in Apex for context.
So if you see some random guy tracking people through walls, instantly landing headshots, and killing everyone right away, that’s obviously an aimbot.
And about recoil:
‘0 recoil while firing (easily noticeable if you watch the match demo)’
No, demos are not fully synced with the actual game, and you can test it yourself. If you record a demo of your own gameplay, the recoil often won’t appear correctly there. Something similar happens when spectating players, and previous CoD games worked the same way too.

ChosenUndead we are not combating the cheats, we just ban the players who cheat and spread the word, if someone is banned they gonna have to create another account etc.
You can easily spot someone using absolute 0 recoil while firing when watching the demo, you can't replicate it yourself since there will always be some movement that is visible, using 0 recoil the gun doesn't move at all and is just shooting straight

"we are not combating the cheats, we just ban the players who cheat and spread the word, if someone is banned they gonna have to create another account etc."I don’t know what you mean by that, but creating a ‘new’ account is kind of pointless. First of all, because the ban system is based on IPs, so unless you have a dynamic IP or a way to change your public IP, you can’t bypass the ban

Secondly, yes, you will have recoil in-game, but you won’t see it properly in the demo. And if you don’t believe me, just play a custom game with bots and then watch the demo recording.

ChosenUndead good thing that bypassing isn't simple

You need to look at a no recoil demo you will notice it: it's like the regular hacks that shoot across the spawns but only the stable aim no recoil part without the wall hacks or auto shots hitting etc

This is proof of what i'm saingand here is the same of the same gameplay
And in the demo, it looks like there’s no recoil or visual recoil at all.
