Friends list is not showing in Plutonium overlay

I need to play with my friends in a private server. I didn't download the game from the torrent because of my internet not allowing for peers connection so I downloaded it from another source and followed a youtube video. When trying to invite my friends, I can't see the friends list tab. Is there something wrong?
