    Is Plutonium fully open source (client side and server side)? for all games? By making it fully open source it will give the mod transparency and others could contribute to the mod.

          Resxt why? what is the thing that made y'all specifically say "let's not make this open source we don't want people to see the inner workings of our software" ?

            • The cod scene is notorious for stealing others work and using anything to make a quick buck
            • The amount of contributors would be small, see IW4x as an example
              • Theres a total of maybe 10 people that made meaningful contributions
              • There aren't that many people that have the needed skillset and interest
            • Open source requires the devs to spend time reviewing contributions from people that either don't know the codebase or aren't as experienced
            • Security by obscurity may not be good security, but OSS makes it easier for a bad actor to find flaws
            • They already provide the product and platform for free, they don't have to give anyone anything

              Miaa_ Nobody is entitled to the source code either. It's their project and they spent a long time working on it. It's better to keep it in their hands than to have somebody make multiple clones of it with no credit and add a paywall. This has happened many times over the years and still occurs. The Cod Community is notorious for this kind of behavior.

                Mxve provided good points. I'll also add that the code is pretty heavy (backend) and yeah I really doubt more than 2 person seriously want to dive into this

                And yeah the COD scene had a lot of stolen code from open source clients or even closed source straight up stolen

                  I get that devs want to protect their work in all. I like open source for transparency. If something is not open source, the security of the project is "trust me bro" which is not a good model.

                  Even if there are 1 or 2 devs on the projects, even if nobody else is allowed to contribute is not a big deal.

                    Still better than Activisions security model which is buy the version next year we can't be bothered to fix it in the current game and might not bother at all.

                    One part of Pluto is open source and immediately got sold by third parties.

                      1. everyone seeing the project would make the anti-cheat pointless
                      2. "Trust me bro" is good enough, they been here sense 2018
                      3. new steam check is comming soon and bet seeing that would bypass that too

                          Activision game is closed source and I never expect the source code to be released for it and over time hackers found vulnerabilities. I also do not expect Activision to make patches for older games. Plutonium may patch these COD vulnerabilities today but I am certain there are more vulnerabilities in Plutonium which will be found someday weather it is open source or closed source.

                          If Plutonium is open source, hackers as annoying as they are can work for you as they become your free cyber security researchers by trying to hack Plutonium and finding vulnerabilities for you.

                          Look at many FOSS software, heck look at Linux itself. Is Linux a security nightmare because it is open source were Linux users fear being hacked on a daily basis? Nope! Linux is the most secure OS out there because it is open source and vulnerabilities are found and patched.

                          By open sourcing the project, it will become much more secure in the long run as long vulnerabilities that are found get patched.

                                RedxSkull nobody would give a shit about a lesser clone with a paywall. Plutonium already has an abysmal active playerbase (despite being the absolute best BO1/BO2 experience on the market), as do the official versions on steam, so if someone just stole their code and made a clone.. Well okay? It's not like they'll even find anyone to play it and even if they did, as others said already it takes too much time and effort to make it run and to upgrade it so it wouldn't go anywhere anyway

                                gijoebo Anticheats again at the root of all problems. I only play zombie so for me the only thing I see are limitations because of it (like the entire Steam Deck platform being banned because of it and ReShade being banned even in LAN mode), but a cool thing would be to see the stats. I love seeing those kind of things it's interesting, it'd be great to have a page somewhere where we can see how many plutonium users got banned by it, how many where in MP, how many where in ZB etc

                                  Steam Deck users account for ~0.6% of our player base.
