Server owner abusing keys
-
AdrX003 This isn't affiliated to steam. It's plutonium
The server limit has probably been set up to give a chance to other server hosters so they cant keep attracting players, otherwise people could have 200+ servers. which isn't fair.
-
@SayKo_ Yes + they don't want their server browser filled with a lot of trash servers
-
AdrX003 server limitation is not a technical limitation
We don't want a single person to spam 30 servers of the same thing and have an over crowded server browser that would kill any new server -
@Skwll All my servers don't have a single repeated map, so I don't think I have that many servers just to take up space in the server browser. I've been thinking for some time to suggest to the plutonium staff that they increase the zombies servers keys limit, even because of the limited number of players per server, compared to multiplayer. Another point to mention is the owners of servers that host servers in various places in the world such as Europe and the United States for example. Also remembering that I only found out about the keys limit per game mode after the plutonium website was renewed. So I think a wise decision by the staff would be to re-inform the new guidelines to all server owners, especially the old ones, before taking any action.
-
still to make a point you should not be at the time making new accounts just to have more server keys we have the 10 server key limit for a reason and in talks about upping them just for zm but you are still breaking the rules by using another account for more server keys
-
FragsAreUs My point is that especially for old server owners, the key limit per game mode was not made so clear. I guarantee that many people haven't had the opportunity to look through all the docs on the new plutonium website to find this out. That's why my concern is to make this very clear to everyone and only then to severely punish those who don't comply with this rule.

https://plutonium.pw/docs/server/platform/how-many-servers-can-i-host/
not to be rude but it seems very clear, and its not our fault if they fail to read the documentation but as stated we are in talks over server keys for t6zm and t4zm
-
FragsAreUs Once the decision is made, an announcement on discord would be great to reach those who don't have as much time to dedicate to the servers. A suggestion would be to put a warning about the keys limit in each server setup documentation and also on the page where the keys are created. By doing this I don't think there's any room for someone to argue that they didn't see the rule.
-
its the same as the anti cheat policy we can link it people wont read it then do a surprise peakachu face when they face actions
-
LeonFull But you already have to actively bypass the limit by creating a new account to generate more keys. I don't understand how it isn't obvious that this means you aren't supposed to create more servers.
Theres no way you accidentally do this. This isn't about people not knowing about the rule, but rather about people not using their brain.
For all I care this rule could be completetly removed, but don't try to make this a mistake of pluto staff lmao -
mxve My intention is not to look for a culprit, I'm just raising another point of view. Even because the servers mentioned here are old and very well known by the community.
-
I feel like there needs to be a system that can check for this type of thing.
You could have a bot sort by game, server name, gamemode and account associated with those servers. Implementing this could automatically find the alt account vs doing the manual work involved here.
-
LeonFull Uh ok, and these old server owners can't follow the rules? Or just because they're known, they don't have to follow the rules?
I have to cut off a lot of maps because of the limit, but you still have those 16 servers online?
Do you think that's fair?
Why didn't you already fix this yesterday? -
@Skwll Because as FragsAreUs said the plutonium staff is already discussing increasing the key limit for t6zm and t4zm modes, so I thought this decision would be taken in a few days. But if this decision is delayed and someone from the staff recommends me to disable the servers that have exceeded the limit, I will disable it now without any problem.

@user042 Thanks for the idea
-
LMAO. This is honestly so funny. She thought of this idea weeks ago but didn't say anything because she thought that Plutonium staff wouldn't create a fix for it since this mod seems to be very underdeveloped. Since she seems to come up with good ideas, PLEASE create a fix for players that disconnect using the same IP address. This creates an issue where if multiple players have the same IP address then it will disconnect them all from the lobby. If it means anything to you, it is her idea.

We're looking into this and discussing the key system
